Warranty and maintenance

How long is the warranty for Evikon products?

Our products are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for one year from the original sale.

Warranty is applicable to products operating in conditions within the ranges specified in datasheets and user manuals. Warranty is not applicable if the product is damaged by a customer error or negligence or if there are any modifications from the customer’s side.

Most often, problems in gas detector performance appear when the ambient conditions are not within the operating range. This means, for example, too much humidity or too low temperatures. If there are other gases present, catalytic and electrochemical sensors may experience sensor poisoning or if the target gas concentration is too high (higher than the detection range of the sensor), it may “kill” the sensor. These problems can be avoided by providing a detailed description of the application when ordering gas detectors.

For temperature sensors, vibration can cause mechanical stress and break the sensor.

How often should Evikon products be recalibrated?

Temperature sensors remain accurate for a while without recalibration as long as the application conditions are within the operating range and the sensors are not damaged.

For gas detectors, this depends on the sensor technology and application. Electrochemical gas sensors require field recalibration every 6 months. Metal oxide semiconductor sensors should be recalibrated every 12 months. Catalytic (pellistor) sensors should be recalibrated every 3...6 months. The optical sensor may be calibrated every five years if used under moderate conditions without strong temperature fluctuations. PID sensors need to be recalibrated monthly or more frequently depending on operating conditions.

PID sensors acquire frequent calibration and maintenance, please see directions on the Calibration and maintenance section in the user manual.

- Modbus controlled forced state option for analog outputs and relays

What degree of protection do Evikon MCI gas detectors have?

E2608, E2618, E2630, E2632, E2638, E2660, E2670 series have IP65 enclosures, meaning they are dust tight and exposure to water jets does not harm the detector.

E2610 and E2611 series have IP20 enclosures, meaning they are suitable for indoor use.

E2613 and E2615 have the option for IP20 or IP65, depending on application.

E2648 has IP66 enclosures, meaning it is dust tight and exposure to powerful water jets does not harm the detector.

Does Evikon MCI have suitable products for ATEX zones?

Yes, our E2670 series is a line of flameproof detectors and transmitters intended for use in ATEX Zones 2 and 22.

What type of power supply is available?

Our E2618 series has the option for either 24 VAC or 24 VDC, all other series have three power supply options: 24 VAC, 24 VDC, or 230 VAC.

Do Evikon MCI detectors have relays?

Yes, E2608, E2610, E2611, E2613, E2618, E2630 and E2632 series have relays by default. E2638, E2648, E2660 and E2670 series have optional relays. Please specify relay setpoints when ordering, default setpoints can be found on data sheets.

How long is the waiting time before the detector shows the correct values?

When a detector is first powered on, it takes some time for the sensor reading to stabilize. The detector may read high values in the beginning during the warm-up period. This is especially so for metal-oxide and electrochemical sensors, for which we recommend keeping them powered on for at least 2 hours (even 24 hours in the ideal case) to let the reading stabilize. For optical sensors and pellistors, the reading stabilizes in approximately 15 minutes.

How will I know if/when recalibration is necessary?

Generally, you can evaluate the need for recalibration based on the sensor technology you use. However, if your application is more demanding, the detector should be calibrated more frequently.

How many gas detectors are needed? Where should detectors be installed?

There is no official figure, however, 50 to 100 m2 per detector is a reasonable general guide, adding more detectors at points where leakage could occur. It must be remembered that gas has to contact a point-type detector to be detected.

There are no precise rules or standards to follow when installing the gas detectors, it is important to consider the following: application for the detector, geometry of the room and airflows, the detected gas (toxic or flammable, can it replace oxygen, density), interfering factors (for example strong vibrations) and accessibility (for repairs and maintenance).

For early leakage detection, install the sensor as close as possible to the potential leakage sources (flanges, valves, pressure reducers, pumps, etc). For general area monitoring without definite leakage sources, the detectors should be distributed evenly in the room. For personal safety control, the detectors are installed in the breathing zone (at the height of the head of people or animals).

Please see the user manual of the specific gas detectors for further installation guidelines.

How accurate are the detectors?

The accuracy of our gas detectors with analog sensors is approximately ±2% (as written on calibration certificates). Aspects affecting the accuracy are sensor drift, temperature, presence of other gases, humidity, etc. As the accuracy of sensors changes in time, the detectors should be recalibrated (interval depends on sensor type).

Accuracy of Evikon MCI detectors complies with the European and international standards and is completely sufficient for using the instruments to avoid toxicity or explosion hazards.

Temperature

What temperature range can be measured with Evikon MCI temperature sensors?

Our temperature sensors have the possibility to measure between the range of -50 to +2300 °C.

What degree of protection do Evikon MCI temperature sensors have?

Protection class (IP) is specified on data sheets, IP68 can be done for some sensors upon request.

How can the temperature sensors be mounted?

We have mounting accessories for screw-in and push-in connection.

Do you offer transmitters?

All of Evikon MCI temperature sensors can be ordered with a transmitter for 4-20mA output.

Humidity

Do the humidity transmitters work in an environment with different gases?

The humidity transmitters do not work properly when there are aggressive gases present and may be damaged.
